MILLING & TOOLING
WE SHAPE WINNERS
SPEED, PRECISION, PASSION.
Great projects succeed long before production begins. In composite milling, accuracy and timing are everything - because any compromise at the start means the project will be paying for it downstream.
Since 2015, RnD has grown into Europe’s largest independent CNC - milling operation, dedicated to plug and mold production for marine applications.
We have partnered with the continent's most demanding boatbuilding cultures across 19 countries and 112 projects. We are focused on protecting our clients' timelines and highest geometric standards.
We understand that flawless precision is only half the job; honoring the schedule and the dedicated budgets is what brings a project to the finish line.
-
CNC milling is the foundational step in composite tooling — the process that translates digital design files into physical geometry at full scale. RND operates three large-format CNC machines with four milling heads, capable of handling components up to 20m in length. The result is dimensional accuracy that holds across the entire surface, regardless of scale or complexity.
Large-format CNC milling for composite plugs and components. Three machines spanning up to 20m × 6m × 4m, four milling heads — 24,000 m² of plugs delivered across 35 years.
-
A milled plug is the master form from which all moulds are made. Plug finishing is the critical intermediate stage — sanding, fairing, and surface treatment that brings the milled geometry to the precise standard required for mould production. Any compromise here propagates into every mould pulled from it.
Surface geometry prepared to mould-ready standard. Your team picks up where the mill leaves off, without remediation work eating into the schedule.
-
Moulds are the production tooling that defines every part built from them. Basic moulds deliver reliable geometry for standard production runs; upgraded moulds incorporate reinforced structures and extended service life for high-volume or high-demand applications. Every mould leaves RND with laser-measured tolerances, documented and verified before delivery.
From straightforward production tooling to complex upgraded moulds engineered for long-run accuracy.
-
Jigs and cradles are the support and alignment structures that hold components in precise position during assembly, lamination, and transport. Without them, the accuracy achieved in milling and mould production is lost at the assembly stage.
Assembly and support structures built to the same tolerance standard as the mould itself. Alignment is not an afterthought.
-
Glass reinforced plastic is the core material of composite boatbuilding and industrial composite manufacturing. RND's GRP production capability means structural and surface composite components can be produced within the same facility and workflow as the tooling itself.
Glass reinforced plastic production integrated within the same facility and workflow. No handoff delays, no tolerance drift between stages. RnD builds the first composite parts to evaluate the moulds and speed up the development process.
-
Prototyping is where design intent meets physical reality for the first time. A well-executed prototype validates geometry, fit, and buildability before production tooling is committed — compressing the development cycle and eliminating expensive corrections downstream.
Physical prototypes from design files — fast enough to be useful at the decision stage, precise enough to validate production intent. RnD has the capacity and proven expertise to build the boat 1 to the desired stage - up to fully functional and production-run equal product - ready for a boat show or sea trials, and delivery to the final customer. This will speed up the development of a new model - and time to market.

RND works alongside J&J Design, possibly the most experienced and awarded design and naval architecture office. Founded in 1983, J&J Design is responsible for over 75,000 boats built worldwide to their 400 production boat designs, and winning 135 Boat of the year and design awards. This relationship means RND understands design intent, not just the design files and composite production process. When something in the geometry needs a conversation before it goes to the machine, we make sure to understand the project well before making the first cut.
